Pastels!!

I am by fault a perfectionist when it comes to charts, etc. in my classroom. In the beginning I spent A LOT of time coloring with markers, crayons..whatever!! BUT about 15 years ago I discovered pastels...THE BEST THING EVER!! They are quick and easy and really make everything look great! The kids like to use them too! I have posted  several pictures of a chart that I made using the pastels. It is really easy! I also posted the type I use. Remember when using pastels a little goes a LONG way!I will post more examples later... Here are the steps
1) Outline my image with pencil until I am happy with it.
2) Trace with sharpie
3)outline with pastels
4) smear/rub with tissue
5) erase any mistakes or stray marks!

This is the final product. I created an interactive pocket chart. That will be my next blog!
VOILA!! I use pastels to border all my posters and even vocabulary / word wall cards. I use a color coding system (green=science words, blue = math words, red = reading words, orange = social studies words)

Once the top 25 have been selected I go to the American Idol webpage and download a pic of each person. Then attach to poster. I separate them by girls and guys as this helps with my probability lesson. I will post all lesson information soon!!

FIRST BLOG!!

OK..well here it goes...My "Bestie" Leslie has a blog about science in the classroom. I love her blog and so many others blogs( SEE LINKS BELOW!!) I wanted to blog too...so, the other day, while traveling back from NSTA and eating at the airport ...she said "you need to do a blog, but not just on science...do it on everything!"...well that is a tall order my friend...so here is my blog...it is called BEE CR8TIVE because I am a creative person...I am someone who likes to foster creativity in others. So this blog will have things (hopefully) about everything!...and not just school stuff...
SO the fine print...I am a teacher! This is my 24th year teaching. I have not figured out all the answers. When I think I do...well, the questions get changed! But, that is how I like it! I never stop learning or wanting to learn!
I think teaching is what I was born to do! I seem to be good at it and inspire my students to love learning and strive to do their best!
So here is the good the bad and the ugly...You are reading a blog by a person that loves to teach! I have taught K, 1,2,3,4...wow!! I have loved them ALL! I am a funny person and can be saractic so watch out! I have 2 beautiful girls Lauren and Haleigh. Lauren is a sophmore in college and Haleigh is a freshman in HS. They are great girls! I love being a mom! I love being a wife too! I loved it so much I have tried it several times! YES!! You read that right! I am not successful staying married... I think that is a non cr8tive blogging topic for another time. :)
So, with all that said...It is my intention to inspire you with some cr8tive ideas for your classroom, home, and who knows what else. I hope you will suggest topics or ask questions. Hugs, Sherrie
